For this years ADE edition Wicked Jazz Sounds decided to focus on two rising Dutch talents:
Duke Hugh (dj-set)
Hailing from Groningen, a small city in the Netherlands, Duke Hugh toyed with instruments throughout his life, from playing classical music on the violin to playing guitar in a reggae band. His productions tread the fine line between broken beat with dreamy electronic hues through to some jazzy shades of hip hop. As a resident at the bi-monthly LOFT parties in Groningen Duke Hugh is known for his mix of boogie, brazil & broken beats.
His debut album “Canvas” on the UK label Rhythm Section International was received really well and was followed up by a flow of two EP’s on various labels.
Funky Organizers (live)
It all started in 2014 when they won the national Popsport in a sold-out Bibelot in Dordrecht.
They rocked venues like Bimhuis, Paradiso, North Sea Jazz Club and were one of the highlights at our festival this year! You can expect an energetic performance filled with urban funk and fat grooves.
Phil Horneman (dj)
Phil is one of the founders of Wicked Jazz Sounds and has been active in music pretty much his whole life. Radio, party’s, festivals and constant gigs make sure this man never gets bored.
Jeff Hollie (sax)
Jeff is originally from the USA, but has been playing and living in Amsterdam for a while now.
His characteristic playing has been part of WJS since the beginning.
Berenice van Leer (vocals)
Berenice is the strong, versatile and energetic vocalist who is the face of the WJS movement since day one. She also joined the Dutch band Kraak & Smaak in 2014 and is constantly touring all over the world with them.
Wicked Jazz Sounds
Wicked Jazz Sounds is a weekly Sunday club night where jazz meets dance. DJs and musicians play together on a danceable mix of jazz, hip hop, soul, funk, house, disco, latin, electronica and more. Making you dance with a smile!
Since 2002 Wicked Jazz Sounds has step by step grown from a party organization into a musical platform. A family of music lovers; musicians and DJs who do what they love with heart and soul. They look to music in the widest way possible.
They see jazz as a genre where a lot of other music came from. That is why they also consider funk, soul, hip hop, disco, drum&bass, latin and even house as their musical base. Getting their inspiration from the newest dance floor killers and music from the old heroes!
